Each of us is different in the aspects of happiness we value. These values ​​influence the way we live our lives and therefore our emotional experiences. ​What are your happiness levels?

What are the values ​​of happiness?​

Happiness is believed to consist of positive emotions, meaning and purpose. But how important different aspects of happiness are to us can vary greatly. Maybe you really like adventure and new things while I really like comfort and familiarity. This would mean that we value different aspects of happiness.

When you know what aspects of happiness (or emotions) you value, you can better prioritize the experiences that produce the positive emotions you desire. Therefore, being clear about your happiness values ​​(or emotional values) is an important step on the path to happiness.

What have people said about their happiness levels?

Thank you to everyone who submitted their responses to this activity! We can now share some common themes that have emerged in our community.

Within the Berkeley Well-Being Institute community, a few themes emerged that helped us better understand people’s happiness levels. In this community, many people fall into one of three different types:

1. The energy seeker: Energy seekers value emotions such as passion, excitement, enthusiasm, self-confidence, and feeling strong, triumphant, delighted, or inspired.

  • They find happiness in planning events they look forward to, enjoying new experiences, dressing up for a night out, and having lively discussions about interesting topics.

2. The Connection Seeker: Connection seekers value love, connection, passion, appreciation, interest, or security.
​3. The target finder: Purpose seekers like to feel productive, inspired, valued, satisfied, and sometimes secure, confident, or proud.

  • They become happy by accomplishing things, setting goals, completing tasks, learning new things, getting organized, being proactive, and celebrating small successes.

More interesting discoveries

​In addition to the types of values ​​described above, other interesting results were obtained.
