Proven Ways to Increase Website Pageviews

When I started building The Berkeley Well-Being Institute, I didn’t rely on flashy tricks, paid ads, or constant social media posting (I still don’t). Yet, over five years I grew this website to more than 16 million views. The secret didn’t require chasing every trend or posting every day. (Can anyone say ‘burnout?!”) Instead, it was about creating valuable, evergreen content that solved the problems people were already searching for.

This approach worked so well because it gave me long-term visibility and trust. By focusing on what really matters—helpful content, SEO, and providing real value to you—I built an audience that benefited, joined my mailing list, and most importantly, bought products from me.

In this article, I’ll share both what worked for me and the broader strategies you can use to increase pageviews on your own website.

Why Increasing Pageviews Matters

Pageviews are not just a vanity metric. They are a reflection of how engaging, findable, and valuable your content is. When users read for a long time, engage with your page, and browse multiple pages, it signals that your content resonates with them. This, in turn, can lead to stronger trust, better conversions, and improved search engine rankings since engagement is a major factor search engines consider when ranking sites.

Think of your website like a store: if someone walks in, looks around at just one product, and leaves, you’ve lost an opportunity. But if they walk in, get a free sample, and love that sample, you’ve significantly increased your chances of building a long-term relationship with them.

My Experience Growing Pageviews Without Social Media

Before diving into strategies, let me share my own journey. I started my website in 2016, and it sat there for four years while I focused on content writing, content strategy, and consulting for wellness businesses. Once that got boring, I shifted my attention to this website full-time.

Over the course of the next five years, I grew this website to more than 16 million pageviews, and I achieved this without relying on social media.

This is exactly what I did:

  • SEO-first content creation: Every article I wrote targeted what people were already searching for. This meant optimizing for keywords and structuring articles so they could rank in Google for years.
  • Building trust through quality: I didn’t write clickbait. I created content that genuinely helped readers solve their challenges. Because of this, my site became a resource people trusted.
  • Evergreen content: I wrote content designed to last. Rather than writing about short-term trends or news, I created guides and resources people could benefit from over and over again.

This long-term strategy meant that instead of relying on constant posting, my site grew steadily with compounding traffic. Readers found me through search, joined my mailing lists, took advantage of my free offers, and stayed to learn and get more. That’s the power of building for the long term.

The double bonus is that when you learn how to do this, you can replicate it over and over again, extending your focus to new topics and interests (like what I’m now doing with THIS website). You’ll never get bored and you’ll always have tools in your tool belt so you never have to take a life-sucking, oppressive job again (unless you want to!)

Optimize SEO for More Pageviews

One of the most effective ways to increase pageviews is through search engine optimization (SEO). SEO ensures your content ranks higher in search results, which brings in more visitors. Look at what Google did for my traffic in the image below:

Increase Website Pageviews - Google Analytics

Because I was new to website monetization at the time, I only sold products through email (about 1.5% of total views). So I, too, still have a lot to learn.

How To Optimize SEO for More Pageviews
Start by targeting keywords that are both relevant to your audience and attainable for your domain authority. For example, this article, I targeted the keyword: “Increase pageviews”. If I had targeted “SEO”, there would have been high-ranking, powerful websites that would be higher up in the search ranks, and this article would never be seen.

Once visitors land on your page, internal linking becomes critical. By linking relevant blog posts, product pages, or guides throughout your content, you naturally guide readers to explore more of your site.

Additionally, a clean site structure and fast load times reduce bounce rates. If your website is slow or poorly designed, people won’t stick around to explore, no matter how good your SEO is. Just make sure the website looks good and it works! Simple as that.

Increase Pageviews with High-Quality, Evergreen Content

This was the cornerstone of my success. Evergreen content continues to deliver pageviews long after you’ve hit publish. For me, it was the difference between a site that constantly demanded fresh input and one that grew steadily even while I stepped back. Now, I can focus on building other websites while this one earns me cash, automatically!

By creating articles that solve recurring problems—like “how to meditate for beginners” or “how to budget effectively”—you position your site as a long-term resource. Over time, these evergreen pieces attract consistent traffic, and by linking them together, you naturally increase pageviews as readers explore more.

Use AI Tools to Draft and Improve Content

One of the most powerful ways to increase pages (and likely also pageviews) is by leveraging AI tools like ChatGPT and Canva to support your content creation process. AI doesn’t replace your expertise, but it can dramatically speed up brainstorming, drafting, and structuring articles—freeing you to focus on refining and adding your unique value.

I now use ChatGPT myself as part of my workflow. For example, I’ll ask it to draft an article on a topic I want to cover. The draft gives me ideas and a foundation—a structure, key talking points, and a flow I can then refine. From there, I edit, ask it to rewrite parts using insights that I have gained from personal experience, add references if needed, include data or personal stories, and make sure the final version has the depth and originality that offers real and new value.

For you, this might mean:

  • Using AI to generate article outlines or first drafts
  • Asking it to suggest keyword variations for SEO optimization
  • Brainstorming alternate titles when you just can’t get the wording right
  • Creating summaries, meta descriptions, or tables to improve user experience

Pros & Cons of AI
Although the majority of this website was written prior to generative AI, I now see that AI really can help us reach more people. AI is pretty bad if you tell it to just write an article on increasing happiness, for example. It’ll just churn out the same content that is already online everywhere. But if you use your own expertise to coach it, telling it to explore something in a  unique way, synthesize related topics in new ways, and edit it so that it still has a human touch, it really can be a great tool.

By blending AI efficiency with your unique expertise, you can publish more high-quality articles faster. This not only increases your overall content output but also gives you more content to repurpose in other ways (but we’ll talk about that in another article).

Create Lead Magnets For More Pageviews

Lead magnets are only effective if they’re irresistible. Anytime I see a website with a simple ‘join my newsletter’ button, I feel sad about the missed opportunity.

Lead magnets that work feel like a genuine gift, not a thinly disguised sales pitch. Think about what your audience craves most—clarity, insight, or a ready-made solution—and build your lead magnet around that.

Three formats work especially well:

  • Quizzes that reveal something personal. People love learning about themselves. A quiz like “Which Mindset Blocks Your Growth?” entertains and provides insight. At the end, you can guide them to related articles or resources, driving more pageviews.

⇨ One of my quizzes has brought in more than 100,000 email subscribers (I think it’s way more than this, I’ve just lost track). Even though I don’t focus on that aspect of that business anymore, I still include new questions on the quiz to see if they’re interested in my new projects.

  • Full-length digital guides or eBooks. A detailed, high-value resource establishes you as an authority and gives readers something they’ll want to reference again and again. If it solves a pressing problem—like “The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Self-Compassion”—you’ll not only capture emails but also build a strong relationship with readers.

⇨ On two of my websites, I give away full 200-page eBooks for free. This one on well-being. And this one on enlightenment. These ebooks are so good that people voluntarily come back to the website to buy and join things. So… give away free, high-quality stuff!

⇨ I’ve recently even started giving away entire pre-made websites.

  • Using Systeme.io’s drag-and-drop builder, I create simple but beautiful website templates, specifically designed for my ideal customers — life coaches, consultants, and other well-being entrepreneurs. For example, the first ‘complete website lead magnet’ that I built was a multipage coaching website. Visitors simply click the link, import the template into their own free Systeme.io account, and they’re ready to go.

Final Thoughts on Increasing Website Pageviews

Growing your pageviews doesn’t have to mean burning out on social media or constantly chasing the next big thing. I’m living proof that someone with no technical experience can build a high-reach, high-impact website and business.

When you prioritize SEO, create valuable resources, and build a website people want to come back to, your traffic compounds naturally. Add in tools like quizzes, freebies, and eBooks, and you’ll multiply your reach even further.

Every extra pageview is not just a number—it’s a sign that your content is connecting. With the right strategy, you can build an audience that finds you, stays with you, and grows alongside your work.
