How to practice acceptance
Once your feelings have passed, reflect on the experience. Ask yourself these questions to find out if you have been able to accept your negative emotions.
- Was it difficult to deal with negative emotions?
- Have you found yourself judging your feelings or trying to push them away?
- How long did it take for your feelings to go away?
- What did you like or dislike about accepting your feelings?

The next time you’re reading the news and are upset by the latest injustice, corporate scandal, or boorish politician, take a step back and pause. Practice letting your feelings simply exist. Be careful not to stir up more negative emotions on this topic. But also be careful not to repress your emotions. Just sit with them without judgment until they dissipate.
