What Are Quotes About Strength? (A Definition)
For instance, researchers have discovered that “mental toughness” or inner strength is the capacity to withstand adversity and adapt to the aftermath of such challenges. Mental toughness has been described as having four components. These components are: self-control of one’s life and emotions; commitment, or the ability to sustain motivation to pursue personal goals even in the face of difficulty; challenge, or the ability to view life’s curveballs as opportunities for self-growth; and self-confidence, or the tendency to view oneself as worthy (Clough et al., 2002; Kobasa, 1979).
Mental toughness is malleable and can be shaped through experiences and interventions such as emotion regulation training (Gucciardi et al., 2009; Lin et al., 2017). Collectively, these findings suggest that mental toughness or strength is a characteristic that can be developed, and it can be a helpful coping mechanism.
Why Are Quotes About Strength Important?
Having mental toughness or inner strength has been shown to reduce depressive symptoms, contribute to a higher perceived quality of life, and decrease stress (Gerber et. al., 2013; Jin & Wang, 2018). It has also been shown to be helpful in educational and employment settings (Marchant et al., 2009; St Clair-Thompson et al., 2015).
Therefore, being exposed to inspirational quotes about strength can help you grow your inner strength and find the will to cope with life’s challenges.
