Running an online business is often described as drinking coffee on the beach while making money on your laptop. Reality, while rewarding, is much more structured, focused and – if you’re like me – full of passion and creativity. I want to pull back the curtain and share what a real day in the life of an online business owner looks like.

It’s not just a landmark film. It’s an honest look into my routine: the wee hours of the morning, the tools I use, the creative process, and the business management that goes on behind the scenes. If you’ve ever wondered how online entrepreneurs juggle content creation, marketing, community, and strategy, here’s how it plays out for me on a typical day.

5:00 a.m. – Wake up with excitement

I usually wake up around 7am (with my alarm on), but today I woke up at 5am because I’m really excited to start the day. This is one of the greatest joys of running an online business: I can create something I love and it doesn’t feel like a chore.
The first thing I do is make myself a cup of tea. This quiet ritual sets the tone for the day. No phone yet, no laptop – just me and the ritual that begins my day.

Monthly income and expenses

Since today was the first of the month, I started my work day by recording my monthly income and expenses. This practice keeps me informed about the realities of running an online business.

Tracking revenue streams is more than just numbers on a spreadsheet: it’s an audit of what’s working, what needs attention, and where I can contribute more. I record revenue from memberships, digital products, affiliate sales, and Amazon revenue. On the other hand, I list expenses such as hosting fees, email marketing platforms, and pop-up ads.

This monthly ritual gives me clarity. It also promotes motivation. When I see growth, even in small steps, I remind myself that consistent effort develops over time. And if something breaks, I don’t panic. I simply use this data as feedback to adjust my approach.

Increase traffic to a new website

Convert articles to video podcasts

One of the most exciting parts of my routine is trying new things. Today I came Google Notebook LMA powerful AI tool I recently discovered that helps me convert existing blog posts into video scripts for YouTube videos.

Why am I doing this? Because content can – and should – be available in multiple formats. An article on my website reaches readers, but when I turn the same article into a video or podcast, I expand my audience to YouTube and podcast listeners. It’s about maximizing the value of what I’ve already created. Repurposing content not only saves time but also ensures brand consistency across platforms.

Branding in Canva and uploading to YouTube
As soon as my video podcasts were finished, I moved them Fabric to add my brand. This is where design meets strategy. Branding is about more than logos and colors—it’s about creating a cohesive experience that helps people instantly recognize my work. When everything is ready, I upload the videos directly to my YouTube page.

Here is one of the video podcasts I made today:

Monthly general meeting

At 9 a.m. I housed mine. monthly general meeting for one of my websites. This community is a new thing I’m trying – I’m not sure how it will work yet. Right now, I’m in direct contact with people who believe in my work so much that they take an hour to chat.

Meetings serve several purposes. I provide exclusive access to myself, answer questions and listen to people’s personal stories. Members often share their struggles, which reminds me that the goal is always to make a positive impact.

SEO brainstorming and AI experiments

After the general meeting, I went into strategy mode. I spent about 30 minutes looking for ways to improve search rankings (and Increase page views) one of my websites. Search engine optimization (SEO) is the lifeblood of an online business. Without visibility, even the best content can go unnoticed.

Curiosity motivates me, so I tried it too Google Geminian AI tool to generate images (and maybe other things too; I’m still learning). I wanted to see how AI visualizations could complement my content and increase engagement. While not all AI experiments make it into my final workflow, I view these explorations as creative play. Some ideas stick, others don’t, but they all drive innovation.

Below is an AI image I created today using Gemini: (Pretty cool, right?!)

How long does it take for a new website to generate traffic?

Write the first draft of this article

By mid-morning, I had already completed a full day’s worth of tasks. Of course, there are other days when I decide to go for a bike ride and do nothing. Every day I let my body guide me towards what it wants to do.

Document the process
This morning I woke up with the idea of sharing with you what my day actually looks like. After completing my other tasks, I turned to my favorite part of my job: writing. I wrote a bulleted list summarizing my morning and entered it into ChatGPT. This was the basis of this article.

There’s something meta about writing a post about “a day in the life” while you’re still living that day. But that’s the essence of online business responsibility: the combination of creating, thinking and sharing in real time.

I’m also at a crucial crossroads in my business: this site has reached 16 million views, I’m fed up with my old approach and AI is changing everything anyway. So now I’m focusing on learning new things, trying new strategies and Continue to document my processes so you can be able to repeat my successes (and avoid my failures). I hope this is helpful. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Lunch time

I’m going to lunch and since I never plan my days in advance, I can’t wait to see what else happens and what I have to write next…

Create an AI avatar with HeyGen

Oh yes. This morning I uploaded an image to HeyGen to make a video and it was working in the background. Hello Gen allows anyone to create a realistic, talking avatar capable of presenting content on video without me having to be in front of the camera every time. (I hate being on camera).

In about an hour (you can pay more to get faster runtimes), the video was ready. The picture to video tool was pretty cool, but I have crooked front teeth and the video looked pretty stupid and fake. So after lunch, I created an AI avatar from a video. It was pretty cool. It almost changed my appearance and voice.

For someone running an online business, this is a game changer.

For what? Because not every day is “photo ready,” but consistency is key when creating content. HeyGen allows me to keep my YouTube channel, website or social media feeds active without having to spend hours filming, editing and re-recording. It also helps me scale: I can quickly create multiple video assets and focus more on strategy and growth. This is definitely something I will explore more.

Create a video with a “digital twin” AI avatar
I’m going to create my first video and see how it goes. I wrote the script and edited the video settings. This will take some processing time so I’m going for a walk and it should be done when I get back.

⏱️ About an hour later, I have a video of my digital twin introducing himself to you. He looks like me and above all he looks like me. The mouth moves a little weird, but I’ll definitely keep playing with it.

You can see my AI digital twin in the following video:

Final Thoughts on Sharing a “Day in the Life”

When people ask me what it’s like to run an online business, I often say: It’s equal parts structure and spontaneity. I know what I actually do to make money, but I leave room for experimentation and inspiration.

Owning an online business isn’t about avoiding hard work, it’s about turning that work into something meaningful and lasting. By waking up excited, pursuing growth, repurposing content, engaging with my community, and staying curious about new tools, I’m building not just a business, but a deeply connected lifestyle.

So the next time you imagine an online entrepreneur, don’t just imagine laptops on the beach. Imagine the early morning hours filled with passion, the creativity needed to turn ideas into content, and the satisfaction of connecting with real people. This is the real day in the life of an online business owner.
