Try Google Notebook LM. I found the search term I rank for and get the most impressions. Since I’m getting almost no clicks, I’d like to progress further in the search. So I listed the top 8 websites that use this term (including mine at number 8) and asked Google Notebook LM to tell me what they’re all missing. |

Step 1: Create 100 pages of SEO content
What did I write about?
Because my new website had low domain authority (This applies to all websites when new). I avoided competing for the most popular and trafficked keywords (like “love” or “peace”). Instead, I focused on Low Competition Keywords– the kind of phrases people search for when searching for something specific. Examples of actual keywords I’ve written about include: “The three markers of existence” and “turiya.” Although these keywords may only be searched a few hundred times per month, they are easier to rank for and are more likely to attract readers looking for quality information on specific topics that are not covered well elsewhere.
Step 2: Create backlinks from my other platforms
Luckily, I already had a few resources online that I could use:
- My other pages: I have linked relevant blog posts from this website to the new website.
- AVERAGE: I shared longer articles on Medium, which naturally directed readers to the new site (e.g. this article HERE).
- LinkedIn: I wrote articles and articles on specific topics and included links to my new website (see image below).
These backlinks served two purposes. First, they gave Google more opportunities to discover my content. Second, they sent real referral traffic – real readers who clicked to learn more.
Step 3: Invite an existing audience
This decision led to an immediate increase in traffic and, more importantly, subscribers who come back to read every time I share a new article.
First results: The first month
Emails
Almost all traffic came from direct email invitations and backlinks. The image below shows the exact number of visitors of each type in the first month.
Search impressions
Google slowly started indexing more pages. The pages are viewed, but remain poorly ranked in Google searches and are therefore not clicked very often. The image below shows exactly how many times a viewer saw the item listed in the search. However, the click-through rate was low.
Search traffic
Organic traffic slowly increased as more keywords ranked.
Rank only for low competition keywords
We may also see that the website is only ranking for low competition or low SEO difficulty keywords. And even if there is a ranking, the position is low (i.e. the article is not on the first page of search results) and therefore receives few clicks.
Domain Authority and Tracking Your Website’s Potential Traffic
Domain Authority is a metric developed by Moz that rates websites on a scale of 1 to 100 based on factors like backlinks, content quality, and overall credibility. This basically tells you how likely your website is to rank well in search engines. A brand new website starts with a very low DA, usually 1, which means Google will consider it “untested” and will be wary of giving it much attention.
How to Track Domain Authority
I use Oversuggestion to track domain authority (DA) and backlink growth. These tools allow me to see not only my DA score, but also which pages are performing well, where my backlinks are coming from, and which keywords are gaining traction.
Pursuing DA is important because it correlates with potential traffic. Websites with low DA generally rank lower and attract fewer visitors, even if the content is great. By keeping an eye on DA, I can measure whether my marketing efforts – content creation, backlink building, and SEO optimization – are making a difference.
For reference, I was able to increase DA by about 1 point per month on this site. However, the higher you go, the harder it becomes, and this website, berkelywellbeing.com, seems to have achieved a DA of 70 (which is pretty good considering I have no programming experience).
What DA means for traffic expectations
For new websites, a low DA means you shouldn’t expect massive traffic in the first few months. Instead, your growth will be gradual:
- DA 1-10: expect very little organic search traffic; Most visitors come from direct mail, social media, your email list and backlinks. However, all of this helps Google see that you are trustworthy.
- DA 10-30: You may be receiving traffic from your low competition keywords.
- DA 30+: Your website begins to compete for moderately competitive keywords and traffic growth can accelerate significantly.
By tracking DA over time I can make predictions How many people are expected to visit the website? and adjust my strategy accordingly. When DA stagnates, it signals a need for more backlinks, content optimization, or outreach. Conversely, steady DA growth often indicates future increases in organic traffic.
Marketing Tips for New Website Builders
1. Content Reach and Quality Matter
Publishing 100 pages quickly gave my site a solid foundation. Google likes strong, useful, always-up-to-date content, and a broad content base means more ranking opportunities for different search terms.
2. Low Competition Keywords Are Your Friends
Targeting less competitive keywords gave me a chance in search results. A smaller audience of highly targeted visitors is often more valuable than a large audience of people who aren’t looking for what you have to offer.
3. Backlinks Accelerate Discovery
Links from my established platforms not only drove direct traffic, but also helped Google find value on my pages faster. If you already have an online presence elsewhere, take advantage of it.
4. An email list is invaluable
Inviting existing readers to the new site accelerated engagement. Even if it takes months for search engines to notice you, your email subscribers can provide instant feedback and traffic.

Final Thoughts on How Long It Takes for a New Website to Increase Traffic
However, if you remain patient, focus on creating valuable content, and use smart marketing strategies – like targeting low-competition keywords and leveraging your existing platforms – you can speed up the process and generate a steady stream of visitors who are genuinely interested in what you have to offer.
The first figures from my new website are encouraging. Traffic increases, email subscribers sign up, and prospects join my group sessions. The work I have put in over the first few months is already paying off and I know the growth will only increase over time.
When you start your own wellness website – or any website – the most important thing is to keep going. Every page you publish, every backlink you earn, and every reader you interact with brings you closer to a life free and free of mass currency.
