Mindfulness activity:
In the next activity, you will perform a mindfulness meditation and practice bringing your mind back to the present when it starts to wander. The mediation lasts approximately 10 minutes. Please ensure you are seated comfortably.
When you’re done, reflect on your experience below to better understand if this strategy was helpful to you (mindfulness isn’t always the best strategy for everyone, so don’t feel bad if it doesn’t work for you).
How has mindfulness affected you?
Of all emotional activities The results from this website were the most shocking to me. I knew from academic research that mindfulness is difficult for some people. But in the Berkeley Well-Being Institute community, mindfulness has proven to be a very difficult activity.
Among our users, we found that the majority of people were aware and accepting of their emotions. However, we asked you if you were overwhelmed by your emotions during this activity:
- 26% completely agree
- 28% agree
- 19% were neutral
- 18% disagree
- 9% strongly disagree
This means that by practicing mindfulness, you can notice and accept your feelings while being overwhelmed by them.
For those of you who agree or strongly agree that your emotions boiled over during this activity, I highly recommend that you focus on it. Develop other skills related to happiness– There are many other ways to improve your well-being. As you gain more skills, mindfulness will likely become easier and more beneficial.
