3. Create a personal development plan
A good personal development plan takes all of these factors into account: the WHAT, the HOW, the WHY and the WHEN.
- What skills will you develop?
- How do you want to build them?
- Why are you going to build them?
- And when are you going to build them?

4. Identify your values
What are your values? Maybe: kindness, curiosity, creativity, hard work or personal relationships. There are countless values you can represent. Your own definition is the key to living these values.
By identifying our personal values, we can begin to create a life more aligned with ourselves. Remember that everyone’s values are different – only you can identify your personal values.
5. Define success in your own words
It’s important to remember that to get where we want to go, we need to know where we want to go. External pressure means that many of us end up pursuing the wrong goals – perhaps we want to climb the career ladder, make more money, or start the perfect family. Then, when we get what we thought we wanted, we realize that it doesn’t make us happy.
This is why it is so important to think critically about our goals and determine whether the actions we take actually lead to the goals that would make us happy.

6. Reconsider your personal development plan
Sometimes we realize that we are at a standstill: we have made a lot of effort, but we are not really moving forward. At this point we need to evaluate the approach we have chosen. Are we doing this wrong? What could we do differently to be more effective?
Sometimes we find that we have made great progress, but in the wrong direction. Maybe we have the job, relationship, or home we always wanted, but we don’t feel better or more satisfied with our life. Next, we need to evaluate what we have invested our time in and make real changes.
7. Record your personal development progress
By checking progress regularly, we can see where we need to pay more attention. This will help us get closer to our goals.
