Reorient your brain toward happiness by doing the opposite

Doing the opposite of what you would normally do can help you think outside the box in your brain. Try this strategy when you feel stuck and want to make positive changes in your life.

If luck skills can be learned (and they are), so these skills, like other skills, rely on the brain. Just like recognizing the color of a flower or remembering the name of a friend depends on the brain, happiness also depends on the brain functioning quickly and efficiently. But the brain is actually quite lazy. The brain’s goal is to use as little energy as possible while still allowing us to function. This happens by learning from our behavior and experiences and creating networks that make it easier for us to continue doing what we have always done without extra effort.

The bad news is that when we consistently engage in thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors that produce negative emotions, our brains can actually generate those negative emotions more effectively.

The good news is that the brain changes throughout our lives.

The brain’s ability to change is called neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is why you practice Happiness activitiesIt becomes easier for your brain to generate happiness. And over time, you have to put in less and less effort to achieve the same level of happiness.

For example, let’s say you’re learning to play the guitar. The longer you play, the easier it becomes. And the longer you play, the less practice you need to maintain your guitar skills. Happiness is the same way.
