Rupert Spira’s book, You are the happiness you seek

In You are the happiness you seekRupert Spira distills the spiritual wisdom of many traditions into two fundamental truths: Lasting happiness is in your nature and is universal: it is shared by all beings. He shows that when we seek happiness in external things – relationships, achievements or possessions – we chase away fleeting thoughts and misperceive the joy that comes from ceasing effort as caused by the object acquired. Spira gently guides the reader toward the realization that lasting contentment is not to be achieved but to be discovered, for it is already the omnipresent and unconditional awareness that underlies every experience.

Rupert Spira goes further and examines how suffering and emotional discomfort come not from life itself, but from our resistance to it. He proposes two complementary paths: the Vedantic “neti-neti” approach – the renunciation of the content of experience and the consciousness that underlies it – and the tantric path, which consists of fully accepting emotions, even painful ones, so that they dissolve in consciousness. Through acceptance rather than resistance and through the realization that our true self is pure awarenessThe book invites readers to live with open-hearted presence and rediscover the deep, peaceful joy that has always been within us.

  • Accessible to thinkers and researchers
